Default DotNetNuke

Hello all,

I've been searching for a way to build a cost-effective corporate Intranet in .NET and came across something called DotNetNuke which is an open-source platform/program that has modules that can be customized.

Has anyone heard of DotNetNuke or used it before?

Do you know of another option, short from building it from scratch?

Thumbs up Re: DotNetNuke

DotNetNuke® is an open source web application framework ideal for creating, deploying and managing interactive web, intranet and extranet sites. With a rapidly growing community of over 330,000 registered users, a legion of dedicated professional developers, and an active commercial ecosystem, DotNetNuke® continues to strengthen its leadership position in the Microsoft enterprise market.

The DotNetNuke® application originally evolved out of another project, called the IBuySpy Workshop. The IBuySpy Workshop application had been created by Shaun Walker as an enhancement to the IBuySpy Portal starter kit. Microsoft had earlier released the IBuySpy Portal as a sample application for the .NET Framework.

Shaun Walker ( the original creator ) has implied that the name DotNetNuke® was coined by combining the term .NET with the word "nuke" which had been popular with pre-existing frameworks such as PHP-Nuke and PostNuke. The term DotNetNuke® and DNN® are registered trademarks of DotNetNuke Corporation in the United States and Canada.

DotNetNuke is built on a Microsoft ASP.NET (VB .NET) platform. The most recently released version is 4.5.

But there is in general a lack of support for cross-platform, free software runtimes.

But I dont think that it is cost effective, it has a terms & conditions in the DotNetDuke market place. I dont know how your intranet web applications are going to be. So define your applications and according to that finalize the development area.

thanks
