The long awaited Blu-Ray disks and supported disk drives for PCs are now available. The technology uses a lesser wavelength light that could be focused more accurately and that makes it capable of storing 25 GB of data on single layer against the 4.7 GB on a DVD. Double layered blu-ray disks can store 50 GB of data. Eventually, all the CDs and DVDs will be replaced by BDs in next few years.

Is this like the blue tooth technology of cell phones? I'm familiar with mouse and keyboard having this kind of technology, but you’re talking about a disk. This is new to me.

Blu-ray Disc (BD) is the next generation optical disc storage media that offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVD's.

It seems a dual layer disc can hold upto 50 GB of data in it...

The traditional DVD's relies on a red laser to read and write data, whereas the BD's use blue-violet laser, and hence the name Blue-ray...

Thanks
Shiva...
