What are the Common Problem in Sony DVD Drive?

There is a common problem with Sony DVD drives that it fails to read disks which contain even the lightest scratches. This is applicable to all Sony manufactured DVD drives and even their Standalone DVD Players. But these drives are good for writing performance and consistency. So if you plan to use a lot of scratched DVDs, never go for Sony. And just don’t throw away your DVDs if your Sony drive fails to read it. Try it in a Samsung or LiteOn drive. It may read like a dream.

I purchased a Samsung DVD/CDRW combo drive and it read my 8in1 movie collection DVD (which was not read properly by Sony 18x DVD Writer) without any problem. I never knew that drives have so much of performace difference between them. Does somebody have a comprehensive list of drives that performs well ?
