| Hi All, CABLING RULES 1)Try to avoid running cables parallel to power cables. 2)Do not bend cables to less than four times the diameter of the cable. 3)If you bundle a group of cables together with cable ties (zip ties), do not over-cinch them. It's okay to snug them together firmly; but don't tighten them so much that you deform the cables. 4)Keep cables away from devices which can introduce noise into them. Here's a short list: copy machines, electric heaters, speakers, printers, TV sets, fluorescent lights, copiers, welding machines, microwave ovens, telephones, fans, elevators, motors, electric ovens, dryers, washing machines, and shop equipment. 5. Avoid stretching UTP cables (tension when pulling cables should not exceed 25 LBS). 6. Do not run UTP cable outside of a building. It presents a very dangerous lightning hazard! 7. Do not use a stapler to secure UTP cables. Use telephone wire/RG-6 coaxial wire hangers which are available at most hardware stores. Thanks

| Hi , I have 4 machines on a peer to peer and all are running XP Pro. I have one machine that will not allow anyone to access the shared documents folder, but I have set the My Documents folder to be shared & mapped it on another computer with no problem. However any other folder that I set to be shared cant be accessed. I have checked the permisions & I am not seeing any issues. Any ideas or suggestions. This is really starting to get on my nerves, I have a folder that needs to be shared & so I can sync the files. |

| Hi, I had issues somewhat like this a long time back. What I ended up doing was making an account on the machine with the share that had the identical username and password to the account I was using to access the share. Please let us know if that works... |

| Hi all, I just dealt with one like this at the college office I work at. The individual that worked at this computer installed something that acted like a firewall, because I could not access the shares from any other computer on the network. If I pinged the machine across the network, It would time out. This machine could access the all the shares on the other computers with no problems. I looked at services that were running, and it matched all the other machines. In the end, I formated the drive, and now it works fine. I had spent about 6 hours on this troubleshooting the share issue, and finally had to just reinstall XP Pro. I really hate having to fix something that way, but I suspect that the previous individual found a way to stop the share requests and ping requests coming into the machine. It could have been something with the registry I suspect. Because everything else matched the other machines. This college office runs IBM eserver for their office machines, and all of them are identical.

| Hi all, Just a thought, is there a way to stop sharing by changing some registry setting? The computer I just fixed, I had to format it, and reinstall everything. It works on the network now, and is shared for all in the office to use sharing. It acted like a firewall issue, with not returning a ping to the IP or the computer name. All of the other computes could see it on the network, but could not access the shared folders. This computer could see all the other ones, and could access their shared folders. So, I had to format it to fix the issue. Thanks

| Hi, Which IP address is seen by the Forums? Any forum...? Like let's say I go to whatsmyip.com they give me my IP as being eg: 69.156.---.-- is that what you see when you look for my IP address or is it something else? And does a Laptop and Desktop used in same home have the same IP address or different? |
| |||
| Hi Bluesky, Why do you ask? go throwh this IP - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Subnetwork - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

| Hi Well if you must know the details...here they are: There is this certain forum where my room and I would like to both go into, but the thing is they won't allow 2 members from the same IP address. she has a laptop and I was thinking if the laptop has a different IP than the home desktop pc then maybe we are in luck and can both join that forum without anyone having a clue that we are from the same home. Is this even possible or do you know of another way in which to make this a possibility? That's the reason I am asking what IP address you see when you look at mine. Sorry if it wasn't a proper question to ask. |
| |||
| Hi satheesh, On the forum side they will see the external ip address (69.156 ...) not the internal ip address beside the nating of the router (probably 192.168.....)

| Hi arjkhanna, You mind explaining this so a (like me) would be able to understand it? Are you saying that most forums are only able to see the external IP address, meaning the 69.156...etc and that's it? If that is the case, and mine constantly changes is this the reason most members are able to still bypass a ban? You still haven't answered my question of does the laptop have a different external address from the desktop? Are you also saying that they DO have my router #(probably 192.168.....)? And if so I guess this router # is seen from my desktop and laptop, right or wrong? |
| |||
| Hi arjkhanna, Yes, I have a router and a wireless adapter for another desktop. What is the way I choose to share the internet? Sorry, I don't quite understand this question? Do you mean who is my Internet service provider? If that's what you mean, then it's Tataindicom |
| |||
| Hi satheesh, To make it clear. You receive an ip address from you internet service provider (69.156.x.x) then your router is using NAT (network address translating) to share the internet in you local network (laptop, desktop ...) with private ip address ( mostly 192.168.x.x). Now at the other end, the forum software will see the external ip address (69.156.x.x) with whatever computer you choose in your local network even wireless or wired. It's the router that do the translation between external ip and internal ip.

| Hi arjkhanna, If I understand you correctly or try to, then the forum in question WILL be able to see the laptop as having the same address as the desktop, right? Any way to not show it? |

| Hi arjkhanna, uh? Block and unblock what? I want to know if there is a way to hide my internal address from the forum in question....this way, maybe the laptop and desktop could log in to the forum at same time without us getting ourselves banned. Any way out for us? edit: you're offline now...so Bon Appétit and I'll check back later tonight...hopefully you have good news for me. Thanks for the info so far |
