| Hi All, I am having problems where if I put the CD ROM of the pro evolution soccer 6 it takes the computer 5 or 6 times for it to recognize the CD. So basically after I insert the CD I have to remove it than put it again remove it and again.... until the PC finally recognizes the CD. Same thing happens to Tomb raider 3 and and the last revelation its a double pack from soldout company. But interestingly after the 5 or six attempts i don't have problems running any of these games it only occurs when I try it insert it after I switch on my computer. However I have no problems running these games, they work very smooth and fast its just the CD writer doesn't recognize it. And i don't have the same problems with the my other PC. Not all games have this problem when running on my PC. Is there any solution in fixing this annoying problem ???

| Hi jsureshkumar, There's not much to go wrong with a CD drive usually, unless it has gone flaky. You could check your jumpering is OK on all the drives. Uninstalling the secondary IDE in device manager and shutting down can help. On reboot, Windows will reinstall the IDE and CD drivers properly.

| Hi, Well I uninstalled all 3 secondary IDE and then shutted the computer down. But that didn't solve the issue Do you have another suggestion as to how to fix this problem? I was thinking whether deleting and reinstalling the CD/DVD drives, will this fix the problem?

| Hi, Last time I had a problem with a Combo DVD not booting Knoppix, I bought another one. The old one works for everything else though... ??? But you don't want to do that! ;D It does no harm to hack around a bit with unistalling drivers and rebooting. You could try a new UltraATA cable and CS jumpering on the optical drives. Or check they are jumpered master/slave on the older type of 40 core cable which are what a lot of CDs are wired with. You could try one of the opticals on it's own. They should both read a CD. You cab reset bios to defaults and save and exit. These intermittent faults are the worst to track down.

| How do I check my jumpering on all my drives ??? So your suggesting to try an ultraATA cable and cs jumpering on the optical drives. But I really don't know where are the optical drives : ? Could you briefly explain to me where to go and what to change I hope you don't mind because im really a big newbie in computer.I didn't get that bit on how to check the jumpered master/slave on the older type of 40 core cable. Could you tell me where to check for the jumpered master/slave Thanks

| Hi all, There are three sorts of ribbon cable. Fast 80 Core UltraATA on the left. It has a fine look and bigger coloured connectors. Slow 40 Core ATA in the middle. The cable looks courser. 34 Core Floppy connector on the right. [url=http://imageshack.us]# A CD or DVD drive has three jumper positions engraved on the back of the drive. Master MA. Slave SL. Cable Select CS. For the optical drives, you want to check that the end connector drive on the usual ATA cable is jumpered Master MA. The second drive should be jumpered Slave SL. If the cable is UltraATA, you can use CS jumpers on both drives, though Master/Slave jumpering will work too.

| There's no problem on your CD drive. The problem is on the software itself. As you have already said there is no problem running the other software on your computer. Try cleaning the CD with a clean cloth or cotton along with an alcohol, then wipe with a dry one. |
