How to Troubleshoot Scanner

The most common types of the problems that occurred with a scanner are due to the parallel ports misconfigurations, scanner software bugs, loose cables, hardware conflicts, misconfigurations in the system BIOS, and mechanical defect in the scanner. The commone manufacturers of the scanner are Epson, HP, Acer, Canon, Xerox, Trust, Panasonic, Kodak and Microtek.

Following are some tips that will help you out to troubleshoot the basic scanner related problems.

Scanner Troubleshooting Techniques

Quickest way it to open the device manager and look for any hardware conflicts and see if there are any yellow exclamation signs.
If your scanner has locking mechanism then check to make sure that your scanner is unlocked.

Ensure that the scanner software is properly installed and all the settings are properly configured.

Make sure that the power light on the scanner is turned on.
If you notice any software related problems in your scanner then you can uninstall and reinstall the scanner software.
Try to perform the basic tests that are provided by the manufacturer.
Make sure that the cables to the scanner are properly connected.
Overheating, dust and humid environment can cause permanent damage to the scanner.

While saving the scanned files use the recognizable files names your files so that you can find them easily by their names.

Before starting to scan large documents close all other applications to get the maximum scanning speed.

Restarting your computer, unplugging cables and verifying any hardware conflicts in the device manager can diagnose and troubleshoot the possible errors.

By adding more RAM, scanning process can be speed up.

For any software related bugs removal and updates check the manufacturer’s website.

Sometimes using the printer and scanner at the same time won’t work and by using the parallel switch you can solve this problem.

Manufacturer’s manual and help CD contains the enough information for learning the features and functionality of the scanner and it also helps to troubleshoot the problems associated with your scanner.

If your problem is still unsolved then go to the manufacturer’s website for online chat option or send them email with the detail of the error you may have.

Try submitting your question in the online technical forums like techguy.org, forums.networktutorials.info and sadikhov.com etc. You will get answer to your problems in a timely manner.
