Default SQL Server 2005: Backward Compaibility Errors

SQL Server 2005: Backward Compaibility Errors

I am running a SQL Server 2000 enterprise default instance and SQL Server 2005 standard named instances on a machine. I uninstalled the default instance and tried to instance 2005 but was unable to with the error:

'an installation packages for the product Microsoft SQL Server Backward Compatibility cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation packages sqlserver2005_bc.msi'

I have tried to repair the backward compatibility currently installed and have also tried runing the msi file again but it will not install.

I have also put back 2000 as the default instance. then tried to apply sp1 to the 2005 named instances and i cannot do that either. anyone have any ideas?

Thank you.

Hi,

Did repairing the Backward Compat package work for you? And when you tried to apply SP1 to your 2005 named instance, what error did you get?

Thanks,

Hi,

When trying to repair it could not find a local copy so i pointed it to the sqlserver2000_bc.msi on the disk and get the following error:

path\SQLServer2005_BC.msi is not a valid installation package for the product Microsoft SQL SErver 2005 Backwatd compatibility. To find the installation package 'sqlserver2005_bc.msi' in a folder from which you can install Microsoft SQL Server Backward Compatability.

and also

'an installation package cannot be found ....'

and also

'fatal error'

I have downloaded the .msi file and that still didnt work.
when i install sp1 i get the following error:

'hotfix has in ecountered a problem and needs to close.'

Hi All,

Did you ever get a resolution for this, I am trying exactly the same, I have deleted a 2000Ent default instance, and am trying to install a 2005 Std instance and am getting the same error on the backward compatability msi

Thanks
