Default Make sure you backup your databases in multiple locations

It is every day you see some webmaster saying that their site was hacked and they lost all data. This ussually because they simply rely on the backup on their server. Make sure that you are at least backing it up on one other remote location so if you lose one you still have another copy. I also learned this the hard way when starting out. Lucky for me it was in the begining so I did not loose much.

I also do backups, but I am lazy

Try to set up a cronjob that downloads a backup on your server's hard drive every x hours/days. You can't forget to backup and it really saved me a lot of times

this is a fear of mine too, getting hacked and loosing it all, or a hard drive failure and loosing your user DB. I back up when I remember too, ususally 3-4 times a month so even if something does happen I don't have to roll back too far to get it all back.

What i do is create the cronjob after a certain amount of traffic or postings have been completed to the database. Getting anymore specific than that tends to drive me a little nutty looking for more space to keep track of backups.

I've got two internal but removable hard drives - mutt & jeff. Once a week, I copy the drive in use & then take it off-site.

Iam not sure that you are talking about MYSQL or Oracle.

There are some tools like MYSQL Administration Tool available in MYSQL for taking regular backups as per the time you specified.

Thanks,
Murali.
