Default Domains losing their original purpose

From the time APRANET and the founding domains... com, net, gov, etc, seems that most of the distinction between each domain name has evaporated. We see individuals buying/using .com like nobody's business (literally )

Sure .gov, .edu still retain their uniqueness, but the Internet has become so messy. Don't you think so?

With launching of many ccTLDs every month, it is sure getting messy.. For a single keyword there are now tens of websites which is getting harder to remember. However .com is still the king among all extensions.
