Default Best AntiVirus Software

Does anyone have any suggestions on what is the best antivirus software for a high traffic pc? It's the family pc and about 5-6 different people use it a day doing all kinds of tasks and activities online. What would be the best software for that type of pc use?

free:

AVG free edition - small, resource light, automatic updates, email scanning. One of the best free antivirus solutions, IMHO.

paid:

NOD32 - i'm personally using this, no fuss, but i disabled a couple of the resident shields (internet monitor, email). Good stuff.

I didn't even know about this software program. I am going to have to give it a try.

I was going to say Norton but even Norton has some issues and can be a real pain sometimes.

So that you won't experience any problem, try installing AVGfree edition. If you are willing to pay, get the AVGpro edition. It is light on you systems resources and it has automatic updates everyday.

I like the Norton Anti Virus. I up-graded a year ago and am very satisified.

I used AVG after the sasser worm, but I had trouble updating it.

Now my ISP offers free Norton, which I'm using on both my desktop and laptop.

Hi,

The best antivirus software is evaluated by it memory requirement (ic) a good antivirus software should no load the CPU as well as it should provide the updates regularly

my option is CA's eTrust antivirus or Mcafee both have bundeled solutions.

Speaking of antivirus software, I wonder how many of them allowed the sasser worm or other viruses to pass through the system, assuming that they were updated?

The sasser worm is the most notorious one that I can recall off the top of my head.

The top ten antivirus software are listed here according to their sales and technical review 2007.

BitDefender
The best line of defense against computer viruses, spyware, hackers and spam is BitDefender’s newest version 10, #1 ranked anti–virus software and winner of “TopTenREVIEWS Gold Award.” BitDefender 10 is an outstanding product with a user–friendly interface that will scan all existing files on your computer, all incoming and outgoing emails, IM transfers and all other network traffic.

This latest version of BitDefender has new features such as “Privacy Protection” for outgoing personal information, “Web Scanning” while you’re using the Internet and “Rootkit Detection and Removal,” which detects then removes hidden virus programs.

BitDefender has also improved their existing B–HAVE feature that runs pieces of software on a virtual computer to detect code that could be an unknown virus. In addition, a setup wizard makes it easy to customize security settings.

My smart-ass answer? The best AntiVirus software I run is MacOSX.

In all seriousness, in 15 years of owning Macs, the only virus I have EVER had was a Word Macro virus (thanks, Microsoft!). Macs are not immune from malicious attacks, but using a UNIX Kernel as the base of the operating system makes the architecture easier to control and update to deal with potential security issues.

On my PCs, I have used McAffee for years. That hasn't stopped me from picking up some problems, but I've never had anything that I couldn't recover from.

Oh, and it's fun reading worm mail on my Mac to try to see what it is trying to do. PC viruses have no effect on Macs, so I never hesitate to open malicious mail attachments to see if I can figure out how they're trying to take over the system.
