"Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness when experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. "In Germany, the Nazis came for the Communists and I didn't speak up because I'm not a Communist. Then they came for the Jews and I didn't speak up beacuse I was not a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn't speak up because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics and I was a Protestant so I didn't speak up. Then they came for me. By that time there was no one to speak up for anyone." - Martin Niemoller

WS,
I've actually been collecting quotes of all sorts for over 25 years. It started when I was 14. Yes, it's an odd thing for a 14 year old girl to collect....but then I was always odd!

I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music." - George Eliot

"I used to think I was poor. Then they told me I wasn't poor, I was needy. Then they told me it was self-defeating to think of myself as needy. I was deprived. (Oh not deprived but rather underprivileged) Then they told me that underprivileged was overused. I was disadvantaged. I still don't have a dime. But I have a great vocabulary." - Jules Feiffer
