Question Memory Sticks??

I think they are called "flash drives"? you know, those little sticks that you put in your USB port? I would like to know if you think it is worth investing in. I am from the age where we used diskettes to store stuff on but i have heard so much about these things i am thinking about getting one. Any suggestions about which one i should get? There are quite a few choices and i get confused TOO easily! lol

Oh, they're great! You can usually find a 1 Gig stick for cheap if you're willing to do a mail-in rebate. I've got several 256 & 512Meg sticks, & they're cheap enough to almost treat as disposible! Just make sure whatever you get is USB 2.0

Too often I get burned on the mail in rebates. I either loose the reciepts or never get around to sending them in until it is too late. I think this is why they offer them in the first place instead of a regualr sale.

You should get one from a reputed company & avoid sellers at sites like ebay & other auction ones. Spend a little more & enjoy its advantages.

Well all usb sticks are the same in my opinion. Only their size differs. I have three 256 mb usb sticks of a very unknown brand (even I don't know it, it's not on the stick itself ): one for backing up my sites and business, one for 'stuff' I don't want on my hard drive, but not in the trash either, and one for school.

I can take them anywhere I want, they're great!

It really depends what you intend to do with it. If you are moving data around on several different comps that arent networked, you really can't go past a good usb stick! Especially if you do work on the run, you can transport any documents or files quickly and easily, without the hassle of burning cd's or worrying about file size with disquettes.

I have a 2gb flash disks and it really helped me a lot when I was still in school. Now that I am working, I'm still using it, it simply shows that it has a longer life span than conventional diskettes.

If you're really concerned about price, try getting mini/microSD cards and pair them with a USB adapter.

A little more troublesome but light on the wallet!

Another tip: buy a USB extension cable to protect your flash drive from damage.

I just recently purchased a flash drive and I have to say you never know what you are missing until you have it.

There was a situation I had experienced just recently when I was at a family members house and they had a problem with the CD-rom drive. They needed to install a program and couldn't do it since they didn't have the drive.

What I ended up doing was uploading the data from the CD onto my flash drive and installing it onto their computer.

They ended up with the data they needed and I was able to be the hero for the day. Can't go wrong with that!

I just bought a 1gb flash disk and it really helped me out in the office. Some files are too big for the old floppy disks.

I got an e-mail last week from Microcenter for 2G Flashdrives for $12.99 and I bought a few of them. No rebate involved!
