Make FireFox the Default Browser

Do you want use FireFox as your default browser but Outlook won't use it when you click on hyperlinks? First, make sure Firefox is set as the default browser on it's Tools, Options menu.

If it is set as the default and either two browser windows open or a File Open dialog opens along with a browser window, then you need to remove the check from Use DDE on the HTTP protocol.

Open Windows Explorer's Tools, Folder Options, File types tab and locate the HTTP protocol, labeled " URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol'. Select it, then the Advanced button. Select 'open' and Edit. Remove the check from the Use DDE box and exit back to the File types dialog. Repeat for HTTPS and FTP protocols.

Signature Spell-check

When you use Outlook 2003 and Word as the editor and you right click on the underlined words to correct the spelling, a list of your signatures is displayed instead. Other times obviously misspelled words are ignored.

This is because you typed some of your message in the signature block.

To make it easier to see where the signature begins, add two dashes as the first line of each signature.

Don't Download all Hotmail Junk Mail in Outlook Express

If you access your Hotmail account in Outlook Express comfortably using MSN Hotmail Plus, you can also access the Junk Mail folder, but you should prevent Outlook Express from downloading all the messages in it by default. Usually, fetching only the headers will suffice. You can always download individual messages completely if it is necessary.

To prevent Outlook Express from downloading all messages in the Hotmail Junk Mail folder automatically:

* Set the "Junk Mail" folder to synchronize Headers Only.

How to Delete Your Yahoo! Mail Account

If you delete your Yahoo! Mail account, you also lose your Yahoo! GeoCities page, your My Yahoo! settings, your Hotjobs profile and other data in services belonging to the Yahoo! empire. If you are paying for any Yahoo! subscription services such as Yahoo! Mail Plus, it is probably best to cancel these first to avoid unexpected payments.

Also be aware that people will still be able to send messages to your closed Yahoo! Mail account for 90 days without getting a delivery error while you cannot log in to your account to see them.

So make sure you tell all your friends and contacts when you are about to terminate your Yahoo! Mail account.
Delete Your Yahoo! Mail Account

To delete your Yahoo! Mail or Yahoo! Mail Classic account:

* Visit the Terminating Your Yahoo! Account page.
* Type your password.
* Click Terminate this Account.

Password Safety: Tips for Keeping Passwords Safe

Don't leave your passwords lying around. Lock them up in a safe box, file cabinet, or other secure storage device. You can even maintain them in a an encrypted (password-protected) file on your computer. But don't write them on a sticky note and 'hide' it under your keyboard or stuck underneath the desk.

Don't reveal your passwords to others. If someone absolutely must have access to your account, change the password before you grant them access, then change it again after their access is no longer required.

Never give your password out in an email.

Likewise, if you forget your password and have to request it be sent to you via email, change your password as soon as you receive it.

Don't use the default password assigned to you unless it's a hard requirement. Some ISPs, for example, pre-configure the account with a username and password combination. You might not be able to change the username, but you definitely should be able to change the password.

Change reset passwords. You might encounter a situation where you're locked out of your account and can't remember the email address you registered it under. If that happens, a phone call to the provider might be in order. After establishing that you really are who you say they are, they should be able to reset your password. As soon as the password reset takes effect and you are able to login again, change the password.

Gamers: don't give your password out in game. Never, ever give your password out to someone in game claiming to be a staff member (gm). This is rule #1 for all games - no staff member (gm) will ever ask for your email. Period. No exceptions.
# MMORPG Trojans Abound

Never, ever respond to an email asking for your password. Most especially, never, ever follow a link in an email pointing to a site which requires a login. Period. No exceptions. These email are called phishing scams and are extremely common. If you really feel there's a chance the email might be legitimate, go to the website via the traditional means - either by using a previously saved bookmark or by typing in the site address you normally use to visit the site. Do not type in the link provided in the email.

Don't use computers at Internet cafes or in hotel business centers to access any site requiring a login. Period. No exceptions. Internet cafes and hotel businesses are rife with adware, spyware, keyloggers and assorted other malware which likely will not be visible to the naked eye.

Thanks
