I got OnInitDialog bug in the emulator?

I am calling DoModal() on a simple dialog, and in OnInitDialog() am trying to set some text on a CStatic. But on the emulator, the text doesn't change from the default text. On the device it works as expected.

Same for if I try and change text on a CButton, or other dialogs objects.
After OnInitDialog() is done I can change the text just fine.
What gives?
