Default Protecting PHP

Hello,

I have a couple of php scripts that i plan to distribute. But i don't want them modified and their code to be protected. Can anyone recommend a good obfuscator or code protector?

You could look on www.php.com and see what they have to say, you will probably find your answer in their FAQ's.

it probably depends on who you are planning to distribute it too, chances are if someone is buying it off you they can't code in php anyway so they wouldnt have too much knowledge about modifying code or doing anything too fishy with it, maybe you could try something simple like changing the characters to some unintelligable font or something (if possible) that should sort out some people. If you are selling it to the tech savi, then chances are if they really want the code they will find a way to get it.

Thats a great point. But somepeople will buy it improve upon it and make it their own.

I guess thats a risk you take when marketing anything. Even in the real world, you may come up with say, a suit design, someone in the industry will see it and think "oh wow that style would look great with a suitcase" and then they will re market that. I think when selling anything you just have to accept that kind of risk and move on.

yeah you can't code php differently that way. People can always decode it.

As in real world, I have a small webdesign company and sometimes I come up with an idea, they really like it and with that idea they go to someone who is cheaper. That's frustrating as well, but part of the job.

I have noticed that many times when people try to present other people's work as their own other webmasters are quick to call them out on it.

I don't believe there is a particular way or scheme tokeep your php coding protected. The main thing to worry about is who you plan to market to and how good their reputations are with regard to maybe giving you a credit or even some link space on a project. It all depends on the buyer.
