I think Forum Signature is most effective way to promote your site in different forums. You have to follow forum rules and make good posts. It also count backlink of your site. Most important thing is that this is free.

What do you think?

Simply as far as promoting in forums it is probably the best way. In general there are more effective ways.

i don't have good experience with forum posting... With 10 posts a day on a very active forum I got one (yes ONE) visitor...

That's just not worth my time.

Also, I bought a forum signature posting package for five forums once, and got around 100 visitors from that in four months (500 posts).

Not worth it in my opinion

How much were you actually contributing to the forum? There is a difference between a high post count and being a mmber who contributes. Was it at all related to your site? If you help others at a forum related to your site you are sure to gain interested visitors.

well it was a directory on a webmaster related forum, and I did post contributing posts. I think that's related enough.

No my favorite way to advertise sites is to make announcements on very active forums

Yes, I agree that promoting your site through forum signatures is a good way to start.
It's one of the best free advertising avenues available in my opinion.

This is effective if you are an active forum poster. The quality of your post has also a bearing because it adds to your credibility. Of course, your signature should be striking not only in terms of message but even in font color -- if possible.

Forum Signatures can only be allowed sometimes when the administrator permits it. There are some forums that won't allow you to promote your site in theirs for free. Well, nothing comes for free nowadays.

Forum signature is surely a way to promote your site and get more traffic but in order to do that the sig should be catchy enough to attract the people ! The using of gif image in sig have a significance in this business though some forum administrator restricted the use of it .
