The best way to promote your site is down to hard work, submitting your url to search engines, directories, through link exchange, through forums, ensuring your tags are there and then keep doing it. Also through guestbooks, now I know they are no good for ranking, but if submitting to people who will be interested in your site because they have a likeminded one, it will help by word of mouth.

Definitely, being an SEO for your own site is a hardy task and requires you to be diligent and honest as well.

Just give it everything you got. A little knowledge about it also won't hurt. Just keep on promoting your site, try to exchange links with other sites.
