Are there forums in which or a site in which they allow you to promote your site for free? We can never neglect the fact that there are newbies around starting to develop their site and ads.

Yes, there are many free advertising forums out there. The problem is that everyone's pretty much there to advertise, too - so people don't look at your posting. It can help pagerank though.

^ agreed. there are LOTS. but don't expect them to be the whole niche of a forum. most likely, it's placed on the "marketing" section of an computer/internet/business related community

Personally, I think a better way to advertise on forums is to find ones that have a similar topic to your site, and participate in that forum (not just spam, but contribute to the conversations). I get over half of my traffic this way.

Any kind of advertising and promotion is going to be helful, but the degree might be quite differenr. But as a general rule, all of the activities in this regard will be driving traffic and customers to websites.

Well, not all advertising is helpful. Some efforts, like buying and selling links, can actually reduce your pagerank with Google.

It depends. If you're exchanging links with a big well-known site, it will certainly help you with your page rank. But not vice-versa.
