Heading Tags, Do They Work?

Ok so you know what the heading tags do right? They bold your text meaning its important?

Sort of, but not as you would expect in the human form, actually in SEO if you were to just apply a simple bold to your text the serps don’t see that as anything special.

If you use heading tags like <h1>Free Seo Tips</h1> making the keyword “Free Seo Tips” important to the search engines you will be indexed better for that term.

A lot of us skip over these tags as we learn about them for basic HTML purposes but we never learn why they are important to SERPS / SEO.

By making the term important to the SERPS we can get indexed quicker and better for the terms on our page in which are in h1 tags.

If you browse through a blog, it has several h1 tags along with anchor text through the pages of the blog.

These tell the search engine that this is why my blog is important. These same principals however can be applied to you websites.

It works great and everything as a combined effort drives you up in the serps faster!

I have heard about the h1 and h2 tags. I've read in many SEO books that h1 and h2 tags can really help to outrun competition if the competitor doesn't use them. Its a very neat, simple but efficient trick.

Yes, thats right. If the main keywords are present in the h1 and h2 tags, and the keywords have been made bold in various places of the website, they do get priority and get better ranking.

But it only helps is use only one title, i.e. only one header tag. Google comes to know before you when you try to fool it. It's algorithms are very strong.

yes H1 and H2 tags are really usefull for SEO, but if you make the H1 look exactly like p, and use only the H1 tag (a nice black hat technique if you ask me!), you will be penalized for that.

I always use h1 tags no matter what on my sites, it seems like one of the fundamentals and a half of SEO. I was wondering, however, if there is any need for h2 etc tags aswell? sometimes I chuck in a h2 tag on the page too if I think that the heading may also draw a crowd. Should I not bother with h2 tags? or how important are they?

Well I dont know about H1 and H2 tags but I heard about this tags. Thanks for once agian for tips. I will check it.

h1 are the most important, h2 is less important, and that goes down to h5.

the p tag is below h5 (a header is always more important than normal text)
