Default Cluster File Share Hangs Event ID 1230

Cluster File Share Hangs Event ID 1230

Got a question and to get to it I will give you a little back story on our setup. We have 2 clustered servers for fileshares that have been up and running for 6months. Our drive setup on them are two 2TB File shares and one 1 GB quorum drive all hosted off a SAN/Basic disk setup (and yes validation tests were ran and came back good). The setup on the drives are 1 for home drive and 1 for file shares. Here the past two weeks on and off the file share will hang on one of the servers with the event

Cluster resource 'FileServer-(Cluster1FS)(Cluster Disk 1)' (resource type '', DLL 'clusres.dll') either crashed or deadlocked. The Resource Hosting Subsystem (RHS) process will now attempt to terminate, and the resource will be marked to run in a separate monitor.

Event ID: 1230

It will hang and we have to reboot the server and let it fail over to the other server. At that time everything is freed up and starts working again. My question is why would it try to failover, and what might cause this service in windows 2008 Server to hang?

Hey guys,

Got a small update, currently we have a hotfix from Microsoft for clustering that we are testing. Will update when I have more.

The Windows Server 2008 failover cluster cannot start because of a deadlock condition in the Cluster service

Hi,

What it ended up being was a new patch to the 4.0 version of NOD32 virus scanner. This may have something to do with the real time scanning. We have passed the issue along to NOD32 and rolled the client back to a 3.0 version.
