Default Dual Server deployment on windows 2008

Dual Server deployment on windows 2008
Hi,

I am trying since the past three days to install Team Foundation Server on a virtual server . The data tier already has SQL Server installed and is a production server. Every time I try to run the installation it tells me I do not have administrative access to the database. I have added my id to all possible and necessary places in the SQL server .That's not all, when the installation fails, the error log says that Error-40, named pipes could not open a connection to the remote host. After a lot of Google, I did modify the Surface Area Configuration of SQL Server to accept remote connections and use both TCP/IP and named pipes, restarted the services, yet no go. It tells SQL Server is not configured to accept remote connections and then says named pipes could not open a connection to the remote host. I could not find any more solutions.

Hi all,

I have given up on this issue, got in touch with Microsoft support and got to know that SQL server should be freshly installed for a TFS deployment, it dies not work on an existing installed SQL server. So we are now going ahead to buy a new server and then start installing again.

Hi,

Can you tell me if the data tier where SQL is installed is on the same box as the Virtual Server or a separate box.

Hi,

Is the database server's firewall allowing ports TCP 1433, 1434, 2383 through? You may also want to check if WMI is allowed through, else Analysis Services may be considered unresponsive as well.
