Default Team Explorer install on system without MS office installed

Hi all,

I am attempting to install Team Explorer on a system that does not have Microsoft Office installed. The setup says the following component failed to install: Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 tools for Office Runtime then it indicates that the rest of the components (including Team Explorer) were not attempted.

Do I need Office or is there another way to install

Hi arjkhanna,

I think "Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 tools for Office Runtime" gets installed with Visual Studio 2005.

I guess you might need that (don't know why)... I know there is no actual dependency on Microsoft Office itself.

Did you just try installing the component?

Download details: Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition Runtime (VSTO 2005 SE) (x86)

You should not need to install Office in order to install Team Explorer. To understand why that component is failing we would need to see the logs. Instructions for gathering and sending the logs is described in the following link:

TFS/Team Explorer 2008 Beta 2 Troubleshooting Guide (Last Updated: 15 October 2007) - MSDN Forums

In particular, the dd_*tfc.txt file should indicate the failure code for that failed prereq. The actual log for the failed component would be the next thing to look at if it is not clear from that.

thanks,
