In making a design for a business related webpage. Let us say for example, for a tech oriented business. Is it really necessary for you to have a very graphics induced page, in which it almost takes a minute to load? Or does going simpler is better? What is you stand?

For me I think simpler is better since most people will spend about 5 seconds on your site and if it takes too long to load you have just lost your potential customer.

Of course you want the design to be eye catching so it can be a catch 22.

I think the web design is changed according to the business. For example if the web design is going to promote a product, it should be designed with graphical animations which will attract the customers. So in that case, the tech should be used to reduce the loading time.

In simpler or rich web development, all are based on the new technology which will solve and give a good presentation about the business.

CSS has pumped up the speed of downloading a page. Graphics heavy pages come across as cluttered besides being slow to download. I use a mixture of CSS, flash swf pic files to create a streamlined download time.
